Getting to and from the mountain is a big part of your Tongariro Crossing experience. The crossing starts and ends in different places, so it’s crucial you plan your transport in advance.

The crossing starts at the Mangatepopo Car Park (20 minutes from National Park)
The crossing ends at the Ketetahi Road Car Park (25 minutes from National Park)
 
The best option to get to the crossing is to book a return shuttle service that will take you to the start of the crossing at Mangatepopo early in the morning, then pick you up at Ketetahi and return you to your car or accommodation at nearby National Park Village.

We provide return shuttles from Adventure Lodge and Motel, located at 21 Carroll Street, National Park. We have two choices of morning dropoff times* and provide multiple pickup times throughout the afternoon. We will never leave anyone on the mountain, and although our last scheduled pickup is usually at 5.30pm (which allows for a generous 10 hours for walkers who take the 7.15 bus), if you are not off the mountain by that time rest assured we will always pick up every last person we drop off although there may be an extra fee for late pickups after the final scheduled time. If you are an inexperienced walker we recommend taking the earliest shuttle to allow for plenty of time for your crossing to avoid this.

Look for the blue Adventure Lodge and Motel sign at 21 Carroll Street in National Park for your pickup location. There is a big grassed frontage and long drive. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your chosen pickup time for roll call and safety check.
